Jacob had been so excited for so long about having a little sister.  He had been calling her "Princess" for the longest time.  He was so excited to finally meet her.

He's so excited!

This is his present from Madison…Super Wonder Bear!

He's going to be the best big brother!

Birth Story

I was tired of waiting.  Thinking this baby girl was going to come early and now reaching 38+ weeks and still dilated to a 1+, I decided to be induced.  I scheduled my induction for Thursday, September 4, 2014, 39.1 weeks.

As instructed I woke up early this Thursday morning and called Labor and Delivery at 7am to see when they wanted me. They told me they had gotten busy through the night so I should eat something and call back in about an hour.  I decided to have a little cereal.  I was just into my third bite and the phone rang, Labor and Delivery asking me to come now.  I woke up Miguel and we headed to the hospital.  We arrived around 8am, got registered and all that fun stuff.  By about 8:30am Dr. Smith was at the beside, breaking my water and I was STILL a 1+.  They told me this could be a long day.  The Pitocin was started.  I look over and this is how I find Miguel.  Working on the computer, iPad and Phone all at the same time.  He was nervous.

The contractions were definitely getting more intense. They kept upping my Pitocin dose, but told me they weren't going to check me for a while since I was only a 1 when we started.  By about 10am the contractions were more than I wanted to handle.  I requested the epidural.  By the time the anesthesiologist came and got it in, it was probably about 10:30-10:45.  Now it was time to just sit and wait and eat my cherry ice chips.

I'd say by around 11:30am things were getting intense.  I had the epidural, but was still feeling some significant contractions.  I gave myself an extra dose of epidural meds.  I waited about 20 minutes and called the nurse to come in because I was feeling pressure and a lot of pain.  Wendy (my great nurse) came in and checked me and I was at an 8+!!!  Wow! We were all shocked, things were progressing quickly.  I told her I was still in a lot of pain and the button was pressed for another dose.  She also called the anesthesiologist to come load me up before having to push.

The anesthesiologist came and loaded me up.  By this time I was not feeling much of anything, not even the contractions.  I couldn't move my legs, couldn't feel a thing!  Dr. Smith arrived and it was time to push. It was now about 12:15-12:20ish i'd say.  My nurse had to tell me when to push because I was so numb!  Well, it turns out this baby girl was ready to come out.  I only pushed for a couple rounds and she was born at 12:33pm.

Now if you know Miguel, you know that he doesn't do well with anything medical, blood, etc.  He definitely couldn't watch the epidural and couldn't really watch during the pushing.  Surprisingly enough, he did cut the cord this time and he didn't even pass out!  I was very proud of him.

Everything checked out fine with her assessment, she was just really pale.  They put a sat probe on her for a while and she was 100%.  She just needed a little time to pink up a bit.  I was so happy everything was ok.  Being a NICU Nurse, I was worried about everything!!  We were so happy!!!

We love you so much baby girl!!

Blog Bliggity Blog

When I started this blog I posted more about myself, my thoughts, etc.  It was like a journal.  Now this blog has turned into a journal about Jacob.  What do you expect?  I love him!!  I need to document his moments and since I'm neglecting to document anyplace else, why not the blog?  I have been contemplating starting a new blog that I can use more for day to day journaling.  I have yet to do this because I can't decide on a name (or it's not available).  Any ideas?  Maybe I will just start journaling more on this current blog.  Who knows. I have a few more personal things I've debated on writing about so stay tuned, you may be hearing more from me soon...

Tee Ball Summer 2013

Here are some highlights from Jacob's first Tee Ball season.  He spent many games crying, not wanting to bat and not wanting to catch the ball. The last game was a success and he actually played and hit the ball.
Go Jacob!
